Province states this decision reflects evolving workplace standards across Ontario.

Ontario public servants are now mandated to work in the office full time, as the province’s return-to-work policy goes into effect.

The Ontario government has announced that the Ontario Public Service will operate on a five-days-a-week, in-office schedule starting January 5, 2026. This policy also extends to provincial agencies, boards, and commissions.

Treasury Board President Caroline Mulroney explains that this decision mirrors the current workforce environment in Ontario and aligns with how most public and private sector organizations function today.

The government points out that over half of Ontario public servants were already working onsite full time due to their job requirements.

Workers who had been following hybrid schedules are moving towards increased in-office attendance leading up to the complete transition.

The province believes this adjustment promotes excellence within public service and is part of its larger strategy to foster a more competitive, resilient, and self-sufficient Ontario.
