One person died after a fire erupted at a home Saturday night.
A house fire in Greater Napanee late Saturday night has resulted in one fatality.
Lennox and Addington County OPP reported that they were called to a residence on Switzerville Road just before 9:30 p. m. on February 7. Firefighters from Napanee were already present and indicated that there might be individuals trapped inside.
Three men lived at the property. Two managed to get out safely. A 59-year-old man jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the smoke and flames, and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A 34-year-old man escaped with minor injuries.
A 65-year-old man was missing when firefighters arrived. Later, human remains were found within the home. A postmortem examination will be carried out to confirm his identity.
Fire crews remained on site throughout the night. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is looking into what caused the fire.
If anyone has information, they are urged to contact L&A County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
