The Ontario authorities has taken the subsequent step in its plan to broaden the Quinte Detention Centre by issuing a Request for {Qualifications} (RFQ). The growth goals to modernize the ability and enhance its capability by over 23 per cent.

The undertaking will add 66 new beds for feminine offenders, bringing the centre’s whole capability to over 300 beds, together with further programming area to satisfy care and rehabilitation wants.

“Our government continues to enhance our adult correctional system by increasing capacity and providing the tools and resources needed to support this essential pillar of our justice system,” mentioned Solicitor Common Michael Kerzner.

The transfer is a part of a $500-million provincial funding to modernize Ontario’s grownup correctional companies. Kinga Surma, Minister of Infrastructure, mentioned the undertaking will “ensure the residents of Napanee are kept safe from dangerous offenders, while giving inmates a better chance of reintegration.”

Ontario Public Service Workers Union (OPSEU) co-chair Chad Oldfield referred to as the growth a step in the appropriate route.

“These additional beds, along with the hiring of full-time staff, will help manage the rising inmate counts and mitigate the risk of violence within institutions,” he mentioned.

Shortlisted candidates will transfer to the subsequent section when the province points a Request for Proposals (RFP) in summer season 2025.
