This marks the second fire-related death in the region within just over a week, as a 19-year-old lost his life in a fire in nearby Loyalist Township on January 29, 2026.
Firefighters from Greater Napanee Emergency Services were called to the blaze on Switzerville Road at around 8:20 p. m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, after receiving alerts that people might be trapped inside the smoke-filled home. Paramedics and OPP officers quickly arrived at the location.

According to OPP reports, two men aged 59 and 34 managed to escape the residence. “The 59-year-old man had jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the smoke and flames. He was transported to hospital in critical condition. The 34-year-old was not seriously hurt,” OPP stated in a written release on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

A male aged 65 was initially reported missing at the scene; however, firefighters later discovered human remains inside the house.
The remains haven’t been officially identified yet but are believed to belong to the missing male.
All three men were confirmed as residents of the home by OPP.
The Office of the Fire Marshal remained at the site on Sunday, and a postmortem examination is set to take place for confirming the identity of the found remains.
