Southeast Public Health (SEPH) is alerting residents to check for measles symptoms following possible exposure at three locations in Kingston, Ont., earlier this month.
Anyone who visited these spots during the times listed below might have been exposed to the highly contagious virus, according to SEPH:
The Goodlife gym at 64 Barrack St. on Monday, Feb. 9, between 8 and 11 p. m. Queen’s University’s Kingston Hall at 103 Stuart St. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, between 11:30 a. m. and 2:30 p. m. The Metro grocery store at 310 Barrie St. on Friday, Feb. 13 between 4:45 and 7 p. m.
SEPH advises anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to check their measles immunity status and watch for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, irritated eyes or a red blotchy rash.
Symptoms usually show up within 21 days, which means during the first week of March in this case. Anyone experiencing symptoms during that time should follow specific guidelines.
As of Feb. 14, federal data reported a total of 239 confirmed measles cases across Canada this year so far. Most of those cases were found in Manitoba, with just one occurring in Ontario.
Ontario declared an end to its measles outbreak last October after over 2,300 cases were reported and a newborn who contracted measles in utero passed away prematurely.
