Annual Polar Plunge event saw brave participants jump into icy waters to support athletes across Ontario.

On Sunday, a group of daring individuals took the plunge into chilly waters in downtown Kingston as the Polar Plunge made its return to benefit Special Olympics Ontario.

This event was held behind the Confederation Place Hotel at 1 Brock Street and organized by Kingston Police as part of the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Registration kicked off at 9:30 a. m., with plunges happening between 11 a. m. and 1 p. m. Participants included local residents, community organizations, and businesses that raised funds before diving into the frigid water.

Detective Constable Bryan Mc Millan from Kingston Police mentioned that the event brought in over $60,000 and was close to hitting its fundraising target.

The money raised will help support year-round programs and events for more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes throughout Ontario.

After taking the plunge, participants were able to warm up with change rooms, hot tubs, snacks, refreshments, and soup available on-site.

This annual gathering invites everyone to get “Freezin’ for a Reason” while backing an important cause.
