Two incidents involving pedestrians being struck by automobiles have occurred in Kingston this week, with each pedestrians succumbing to accidents they sustained, based on police.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, a pedestrian utilizing the help of a mobility gadget was struck by a pickup truck as they crossed the street. The incident occurred simply earlier than 4 p.m., on the intersection of Stephen Road and Cowdy Road, lower than a block from Regiopolis Notre Dame Catholic Excessive Faculty.

Kingston Police, Frontenac Paramedic Providers, and Kingston Fireplace & Rescue all attended the scene, which resulted within the closure of some streets round Regi and a chronic police presence as officers investigated the scene.

In response to Kingstonist inquiries the next day, Constable Anthony Colangeli, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police, defined that the pedestrian, a senior citizen, had been crossing Stephen Road at Cowdy Road after they have been struck by a truck that was travelling eastbound on Stephen Road. The pedestrian was transported to Kingston Common Hospital (KGH) by paramedics with severe accidents, based on Colangeli on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024.

Regardless of Kingstonist receiving stories that the pedestrian had handed away on account of their accidents, Colangeli was unable to verify that data on Wednesday. Nevertheless, he defined that, whereas no charges had been laid at the moment, the investigation remained ongoing.

On Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, Colangeli was in a position to verify that the collision was deadly. The 88-year-old pedestrian handed away in hospital, based on police.

Sadly, the 88-year-old was not the one pedestrian dying police confirmed Friday.

The night time prior, simply earlier than 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, police, firefighters, and paramedics responded to the intersection of King Road West at McDonald Avenue in Portsmouth Village. There, a pedestrian had been struck by a Chevy pickup truck. Emergency responders rendered help to the pedestrian, who was transported to hospital with severe accidents.

King Road West was closed off to site visitors as police carried out the on-scene portion of their investigation. Sadly, the 75-year-old pedestrian in the end handed away, Kingston Police relayed.

Based on Const. Colangeli, the investigation into that collision additionally stays ongoing, and no charges have been laid at time of publication.

Coincidentally, Kingston Police Chief Scott Fraser launched a report this week on collisions that occurred within the metropolis within the first half of 2024. Based on the report, between January 1 and June 30 of this 12 months, 28 collisions involving pedestrians have occurred. Of these collisions, three occurred in parking heaps, one occurred at a non-public drive, two occurred at T-shaped intersections, one occurred at a four-way cease intersection, 12 have been intersection-related, and 9 have been non-intersection-related. Three of these collisions have been deadly.
