Bryan Paterson emphasizes the importance of supportive housing and the urgent need for more homes.

The mayor of Kingston is keeping a close eye on how Ontario’s new provincial budget will impact local funding.

Bryan Paterson mentioned that one of the main concerns is whether there will be financial support for a long-awaited hospital project in the city.

Paterson believes that obtaining provincial backing for hospital infrastructure is essential as the demand for medical services continues to rise in the area.

He also highlighted the ongoing necessity for supportive housing, describing it as a vital part of tackling the broader housing and homelessness issues facing Kingston.

According to Paterson, investing in supportive housing can alleviate stress on shelters and the healthcare system while offering more stable living options for at-risk residents.

The mayor also spoke about recently introduced HST measures related to housing, stating that further actions are needed to increase supply.

He noted that while tax changes might help, boosting home construction is crucial to enhancing affordability in Kingston.

Paterson said the city will keep pushing for funding and policies that align with Kingston’s growing needs as details of the provincial budget emerge.
