To keep kids and families entertained during March break, there are plenty of activities happening in and around Hamilton.

This year’s March break runs from March 16 to 20, when Ontario schools will be closed.

Here’s a look at some things you can do.

Swim, skate, run

This March break, the City of Hamilton is offering additional drop-in swim, gym, and skate programs. You can find specific schedules for local recreation centres online.

Visit the library

The Hamilton Public Library will have various programming options for March break, including karaoke, gaming sessions, science activities, nature explorations, movies, and music events.

You can check out the event schedule online.

Your library card also lets you get a Presto transit card for your child, borrow passes to Ontario Parks and Hamilton conservation areas, or check out passes to the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

Discover Hamilton Civic Museums

If you have a library card, entry is free at all Hamilton Civic Museums on March 16. These include the Hamilton Children’s Museum and Dundurn National Historic Site. Each museum has its own schedule available online.

Explore Gage Park

The Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse is hosting Spring Discover Days featuring guided tours, scavenger hunts, and educational activities.

Savor maple syrup treats

This month brings the annual Maple Syrup Festival at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Burlington, Ont. The festival includes guided tours, farm animals to see up close, tasty treats, and a pancake house experience.

If you’re driving there, make sure to get a daily vehicle permit that can be purchased up to five days ahead of time.

Hamilton’s Westfield Heritage Village Conservation Area also offers its own maple syrup events like visiting a sugar shack, wagon rides through the area, enjoying a pancake feast along with historical interpreters.

Create at the farmer’s market

This week at Hamilton’s Farmer’s Market local artist Annie Webber will lead participants in a cardboard construction challenge from March 18 to 21 between 10 a. m. and 12 p. m.

Enjoy movie screenings

Playhouse Cinema will show family-friendly films throughout the week including Paddington 2 and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Tickets are $9 with matinees featuring three Looney Tunes shorts before each film starts.

The Westdale will also screen Labyrinth starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly during March break.
