Strike impacting GO Prepare service in Milton, Hamilton

Commuters who take GO trains on the Milton line and in Hamilton should discover alternate methods to get to and from work as a result of a nationwide rail shutdown.

Rail service at Canadian Nationwide Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas Metropolis grounded to a halt at 12:01 a.m. Thursday after a deal wasn’t reached with the union representing about 9,300 staff at each corporations.

A phased shutdown of the networks at each corporations had already began as contract talks with the Teamsters Canada Rail Convention approached a midnight deadline. 

The shutdown marks the first-ever simultaneous work stoppage on the nation’s greatest rail corporations.

On Wednesday, Metrolinx preemptively cancelled GO practice service on the Milton line and on the Hamilton GO station in anticipation of a piece stoppage. Service could be cancelled no matter whether or not the strike was averted or not.

“As a result of the ongoing labour disruption, GO train services on the Milton line and at Hamilton GO station are temporarily suspended due to the interruption of rail traffic services provided by Canadian Pacific Kansas City. All other GO lines, the UP Express and Lakeshore West line stations are not impacted,” Metrolinx stated in a press release.

“The Canadian National Railway Company labour disruption does not affect any GO or UP Express services.”

The provincial company accountable for GO Transit stated about 7,500 prospects use the Milton line every day, which cuts via Mississauga to Toronto’s downtown Union Station.  Round 600 rail prospects use Hamilton GO station every day.

Metrolinx spokesperson Andrea Ernesaks stated prospects on the Milton hall are inspired to think about native transit choices or entry GO Transit on the Lakeshore West or Kitchener corridors. Prospects at Hamilton GO can entry companies at West Harbour or Aldershot GO stations or use often scheduled bus service.
