Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that a 47-year-old man from Hamilton has been charged following an incident where a pickup truck was seen driving on three wheels, creating sparks along the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) on New Year’s Eve.
Officers began to receive several calls around 11:20 p. m. about a truck heading towards Toronto on the QEW close to Welland Avenue in St. Catharines, according to a social media update from the OPP Highway Safety Division.
The vehicle was eventually stopped near Bartlett Avenue in Grimsby. The driver was arrested for impaired driving after officers found empty beer cans inside the truck.
The OPP noted that the driver had more than twice the legal blood-alcohol limit. Additionally, checks revealed that his driver’s license had been suspended since 2001.

The man faces charges of impaired operation, operating over 80 milligrams, dangerous driving, and driving while suspended.

The OPP’s post mentions that “the vast majority of drivers… planned ahead and celebrated responsibly,” while cautioning that those who endanger others will face serious repercussions.
