Mohawk Faculty layoffs to offset subsequent yr’s $50M deficit

Mohawk Faculty is trying into potential layoffs following a report that projected a $50 million deficit for subsequent yr’s price range.

In a memo shared to employees and school Wednesday, the school says that the bulletins made by the federal authorities to cut back worldwide scholar enrolment throughout the nation beginning subsequent yr are a main trigger for the college’s deficit.

The Mohawk Govt Group and employees met Monday to overview the college’s funds. The memo reads that every space of the school has begun to overview particular person budgets to evaluate the place to save cash forward of the following fiscal yr.

“Every area of the college will be affected, and layoffs will be necessary,” reads the memo. “We will also be introducing a voluntary retirement incentive program for eligible employees.”

Adjustments to worldwide enrolment capability

Earlier in September, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced it was decreasing the worldwide enrolment cap by ten per cent for 2025-26.
