Hamilton neighborhood leaders got here collectively to talk out over a Saturday demonstration close to Jackson Sq. to demand “mass deportations”.

A bunch of hooded and capped protestors sporting all-black clothes and darkish face masks gathered close to the downtown buying advanced and held up a big banner that mentioned “mass deportations now”.

Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath took to social media to voice her opinion.

#HamOnt There isn’t a house for hate or discrimination of any variety in our metropolis. Hamiltonians should really feel accepted, valued, and secure – and to have the ability to get pleasure from their communities free from hate, racism, and discrimination.

About 16 native elected officers and neighborhood teams additionally denounced the gathering in a joint assertion saying, “Hamilton has no place for fascism and hate.”

Hamilton Centre MP Matthew Inexperienced added that the protest “crosses every line of decency” and Ward 3 Metropolis Councillor Nrinder Nann known as on the demonstrators to “show their faces” in order that they could possibly be “accountable for their actions”.

Hamilton police haven’t confirmed if the incident is being investigated.
