Extra particulars are unfolding in regards to the Hamilton avenue gang that has been linked to drug trafficking, robberies, daytime shootings, and homicides.
On Tuesday, police introduced the arrests of 24 individuals, linked to the “Hot Mali Squad.” A mixed whole of 172 charges have been laid.
Officers imagine this crew is behind a sequence of violent acts relationship again to 2021, most of which look like concentrated in a particular territory.
A daytime drive-by taking pictures occurred at Cannon Avenue East and Barnesdale Avenue, one other at Caroline and King streets.
Two of the shootings linked to this gang occurred in Hamilton’s downtown core.
“That entire area they control, in that territory, including drug trafficking, and often they resolve their differences in using firearms, and this higher level of violence,” Ben Thibodeau with the Hamilton police stated.
Not less than 10 of the people arrested are individuals below the age of 25.
Voula Marinos, a criminologist at Brock College, says whereas the arrests present police are taking gangs and weapons significantly, the foundation of the issue stays unaddressed.
“We need to address prevention…why are young people getting into gangs,” Marinos stated. “That means looking at things like poverty, instability in families.”
As for the rest of the police investigation, one suspect remains to be at massive.
Corey Salter, 39, is needed on two counts of drug trafficking.
