One teen is in custody and three others are wished following a smash-and-grab theft at Peoples Jewellers in Lime Ridge Mall on Tuesday.

A jewellery retailer employee referred to as Hamilton police round 3 p.m., saying a gaggle of teenagers had been smashing show instances with hammers and stealing jewellery.

Police Inspector Sabrina Feser says a safety guard throughout the retailer sustained minor accidents after being assaulted through the theft.

Feser says two of the suspects fled the scene in a automobile ready outdoors the Hamilton Mountain shopping center.

Police, one other mall safety guard and a few witnesses ran after a 3rd suspect. The teenager was arrested throughout the road.

The drive’s K9 unit tracked down a fourth suspect, who dropped some clothes, hammers and a bag of stolen jewellery through the pursuit. Whereas police had been unable to arrest him, Feser says they did recuperate the gadgets left behind.

Investigators imagine all 4 suspects are between the ages of 16 and 20.

There have been a number of brazen jewellery retailer robberies in southern Ontario over the previous few months, together with a smash-and-grab lower than 24 hours in the past at Burlington Centre shopping center.

Surveillance video of the incident at Arain Jewellers on Monday night reveals a number of suspects smashing show instances and fleeing the shop with luggage of stolen jewellery. An worker was pushed through the theft however Halton police say she didn’t maintain any accidents.

Hamilton police say the latest hike in smash-and-grab robberies has prompted the drive to extend their presence at Lime Ridge Mall and jewellery shops throughout the town.

“That is why we had such a quick response here,” Feser advised reporters outdoors of Lime Ridge Mall on Tuesday night.
