Peel Regional Police say six individuals have been charged as a part of an ongoing investigation into large-scale butter and ghee thefts within the space.
Police say there was a big enhance in reported butter thefts at grocery shops within the area, with losses of greater than $60,000.
They are saying an investigation dubbed “Venture Flaherty” was launched to handle the alleged thefts and three individuals have been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
Police say three others have been charged with theft beneath $5,000.
Peel police say the current rise in butter thefts represents a 135 per cent enhance in comparison with 2023, and greater than 180 comparable incidents had been reported to the power.
They are saying officers proceed to analyze the thefts, together with monitoring which companies are allegedly accepting the stolen merchandise.
The alleged thefts in Peel Area are the newest in a collection of comparable incidents throughout Ontario, with police in Guelph and Brantford each investigating native butter heists late final 12 months.
