The College of Waterloo says twin sisters set to start their PhD research on the college have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza earlier this month.
The college says Dalia and Sally Ghazi Ibaid have been planning to come back to Waterloo, Ont., to get their doctorates in system design engineering earlier than they died on Dec. 5.
It says each sisters have been recipients of the varsity’s Pupil Aid Fellowship, and had been chosen primarily based on their “excellent tutorial achievement and demonstrated analysis potential.”
The sisters’ household says in an announcement supplied to the varsity that the 2 have been “filled with goals and ambitions,” and had talked in regards to the issues they needed to do in Canada.
The household says the twins didn’t get an opportunity to understand their goals, and is thanking the varsity for caring and serving to their daughters.
The college says it’s “deeply saddened” to share the information of the deaths and it encourages college students and employees to succeed in out to highschool counselling sources.
