PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Peterborough police have recognized human stays in a decades-old chilly case as these of a person who they are saying was a sufferer of murder.

Police say leisure divers discovered a human cranium within the Otonabee River in Peterborough on July 10, 1988, however intensive air and underwater searches did not get well the remainder of the physique.

They are saying a autopsy examination on the time revealed the cranium belonged to a male and that he had been murdered.

Police say that due to superior DNA testing know-how, the sufferer has now been recognized as Gerald Durocher, who would have been 38 years outdated on the time of his loss of life.

They are saying the stays have been despatched to a Texas-based forensic testing firm in October 2021, and genome sequencing was used to construct a DNA profile and determine potential family.

They are saying police then interviewed family and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service carried out additional DNA testing to verify Durocher’s id.

Police say Durocher had connections in Ontario, together with Ottawa, in addition to the Quesnel, B.C., space and investigators are asking anybody with details about the case to come back ahead.
