Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a 33-year-old man died early Wednesday morning whereas in York Regional Police custody.
The Particular Investigations Unit says the person turned himself in to a police station in Richmond Hill, Ont., in connection to a warrant for breach of probation.
The SIU says at round 1 a.m. the following morning, he was present in medical misery and officers supplied assist and known as emergency companies.
The person was taken to hospital and pronounced deceased there.
The watchdog says three investigators have been assigned to the case and an post-mortem is scheduled for Thursday.
