A 29-year-old man from Dufferin County is facing multiple charges after police discovered street drugs valued at $27,000 hidden in bushes in Guelph’s north end on Monday morning.
At around 9:30 a. m., an officer from the Guelph Police Service’s traffic enforcement unit was patrolling near Imperial Road N. and Massey Road when he noticed a motorcyclist behaving suspiciously.
As the officer approached, his cruiser’s automated license plate reader indicated that the motorcycle was registered to a driver whose license had been suspended.
A second officer nearby observed the motorcycle stopped at a red light.
“The driver dropped the bike and attempted to flee on foot but was caught after a short foot pursuit,” police said in a release.
A witness reported seeing the man tossing items into some bushes while he ran away.
“A search of the area revealed five baggies containing controlled substances including suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and Oxycodone and drug paraphernalia,” police said.
A search of the man also uncovered two knives, a collapsible baton, bear spray, cash and a stolen driver’s license. Authorities found that he had 19 separate driving prohibitions as well.
The man has been charged with:
Five counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Four counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. One count of carrying a concealed weapon. 19 counts of driving while prohibited.
The man was held for a bail hearing.
