LCBO staff rally in Guelph for first day of strike

Employees hit the picket line at Ontario LCBO places Friday, together with Guelph’s 5 shops

Picketers rallied close to Guelph LCBO places this morning after the strike deadline handed at 12:01 a.m. Friday and staff hit the picket traces.

Roughly 10,000 LCBO staff are on strike.

Roughly 15 individuals had been out picketing on the nook of Stone Highway and Scottsdale Drive.

Automobiles honked as they drove by the rally and Ontario Public Sector Workers Union (OPSEU) members whistled in reply.

“After several months of collective bargaining with the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) in hopes of reaching a fair and equitable agreement, LCBO is disappointed that the union has initiated a strike – the first in our long history in Ontario,” learn a press release on the LCBO web site.

On Google, the enterprise hours for all Guelph LCBO places learn “briefly closed.”

“We remain hopeful that we can quickly reach an agreement that is fair to our employees, while enabling the LCBO’s continued success in a changing marketplace,” stated on the LCBO negotiations web site.

On Thursday, a union spokesperson stated they had been dedicated to bargaining a very good deal for staff, in response to Canadian Press.

LCBO staff are on the lookout for wage will increase and extra full-time jobs since they stated part-time roles have turn out to be 70 per cent of their workforce, continued the Canadian Press article.

All whereas Premier Doug Ford introduced plans for comfort shops and grocery shops to promote  beer, wine and ready-to-drink drinks. The union fears job losses due to this, stated within the article.
