Three individuals apprehended in a car theft case in Guelph might be linked to other similar incidents throughout southern Ontario.
The police reported that the inquiry started on New Year’s Eve outside a nearby gym.
Authorities say a man from Brampton registered for a gym membership at the facility on Eramosa Road, using an alias.
He allegedly took a wallet and keys to a 2017 Toyota Camry from the changeroom and, with assistance from another suspect, located the vehicle in the parking area and drove off with it.
“The Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit took over the investigation and identified a suspect. Officers attended his address in Brampton last Friday (January 9) and located the stolen Camry with a fake licence plate attached,” said police.
“While conducting surveillance, officers saw three men, including their suspect, driving in a Toyota van which had been stolen from Toronto earlier that morning.”
All three suspects, hailing from Brampton, were arrested and face charges. Their ages range from 27 to 32 years old.
The investigation continues as police services from different areas are now involved.
