Butter continues to be a sizzling commodity in Guelph, Ont.


Not less than seven large-scale thefts have been reported over a 10-month interval, together with two hauls in simply the final month.


On Oct. 12, at round 7:45 p.m., two males entered a retailer on Speedvale Avenue East.


“They placed a number of items in a cart – including three cases of butter with a value of $936 – and left out a receiving door,” the Guelph Police Service stated in a information launch.


Each males have been described as brown-skinned, roughly 40 years of age and 5’7”, with medium builds. One was carrying a darkish sleeveless vest and a blue and white baseball cap, whereas the opposite was carrying a darkish winter coat and pink baseball cap. Earlier butter thefts


In August 2023, butter thieves focused two Guelph companies.


Police stated a person walked out of a retailer at Gordon Road and Clair Highway with two instances of the dairy product. The overall price was roughly $500.


An hour later, a person crammed two baggage with $300 value of butter from a retailer at Kortright Highway West and Edinburgh Highway South. He was final seen leaving in a white Toyota Corolla.


Then, on Dec. 24, 2023, police caught three males from Brampton with greater than $1,000 in stolen butter. They stated the lads have been seen placing a case of their cart, strolling out of the shop and driving away with the products.


An hour later, the automobile was found exterior one other grocery retailer. Police arrested the 2 males within the automobile and a 3rd as he was leaving the enterprise. A witness advised officers the third man had deserted a cart simply exterior the shop and, when police checked it, they discovered stolen butter.


In all, they recovered 144 sticks of butter and 17 containers of ghee.
