The Ukrainian Canadian Congress is warning that lots of the 300,000 Ukrainians who arrived in Canada underneath three-year emergency visas face an unsure future as a result of their momentary residencies are about to run out.
Government Director Ihor Michalchyshyn says he met with Immigration Minister Marc Miller final week to ask his division to routinely renew the visas for an additional three years.
Miller stated final week that the Ukrainians should apply for an extension to a working allow or a pupil visa with a view to keep longer as momentary residents.
The minister stated that whereas he wouldn’t power the Ukrainians to return to a warfare zone, he was not able to grant everlasting residency to all 300,000 who arrived underneath the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Journey.
The federal authorities launched that immigration program in March 2022 and it expired two years later.
In a letter despatched to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the federal government of Newfoundland and Labrador says it helps an automated extension of the emergency visas till March 31, 2028.
