A large number of Canadians want to see U. S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra removed from Canada.

According to the petition, Hoekstra has “normalized” President Donald Trump’s hostility towards Canada:

U. S Ambassador Pete Hoekstra has consistently made public remarks that undermine Canada-U. S. diplomatic relations, including calling the 2025 Canadian federal election “anti-American”;

Ambassador Hoekstra has accepted the Trump administration’s threats to treat Canada as the “51st state,” referring to such comments as a “term of endearment”;

Ambassador Hoekstra has accused Canada of meddling in U. S. domestic politics while making several interventions in Canadian political matters that go against diplomatic norms;

Ambassador Hoekstra is connected to a Michigan-based voter identification app used by the Alberta separatist Centurion Project, despite claiming he had no knowledge of its use; and

The Alberta Prosperity Project met with U. S. State Department officials three times between April 2025 and January 2026, with Hoekstra stating he was unaware of those meetings, raising serious concerns about U. S. interference in Canadian unity.

We, the undersigned residents of Canada, urge the Government of Canada to:
1. Officially declare Pete Hoekstra persona non grata and seek his removal as U. S. Ambassador to Canada;
2. Address with the United States the conduct pattern by Ambassador Hoekstra that contradicts the Vienna convention on Diplomatic Relations; and
3. Direct a parliamentary committee to investigate U. S. diplomatic interference in Canadian internal affairs.

Hoekstra was confirmed as America’s ambassador to Canada in April 2025.

The Calgary woman who started the petition said she’s been amazed by the response.

“It tells me that it’s not a fringe issue, and that a lot of Canadians are uncomfortable with how Hoekstra has been repeating Trump talking points about our sovereignty and Canada as a whole.”

Walker’s petition now has enough signatures for it to be debated on the floor of Canadian parliament this fall.
