There were fewer Canadians choosing to vacation in Florida during the third quarter of 2025 compared to previous years.

According to VISIT FLORIDA, around 507,000 Canadians made their way to Florida from July through September 2025, a time that usually sees a lot of activity at theme parks and beaches. This figure represents a 15% drop from Q3 2024 and nearly a 28% decline from Q3 2019, as reported by Fort Myers-based WINK News.

Some Canadians have voiced their frustration and are hesitant about visiting the U. S. due to President Donald Trump’s tariffs and his remarks about Canada potentially being annexed.

VISIT FLORIDA mentioned that a total of 34.3 million tourists visited the state in Q3 2025, showing an overall increase of 0.3% compared to the same period in 2024.

While the press release didn’t highlight the 15% drop in Canadian visitors, state officials kept an optimistic perspective.

“Florida tourism remains strong and leads the nation,” stated Bryan Griffin, president and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA, in the press release. “VISIT FLORIDA is strategically focused on growing visitation from Latin America and Europe while maintaining Florida’s #1 market share of domestic tourists, and our strategy is working.”

Gov. Ron De Santis dismissed concerns regarding any possible downturn in Canadian tourism last year.

“They said that the Canadians were going to stop coming to Florida. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s true, because who would want to be in Canada in the Winter or Spring when you could be in Florida? Like, if you can get here, you want to get here.’ And so we have the numbers,” De Santis said during the 2025 Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism in late August.

In contrast, most visitors flocking to Florida are coming from other parts of the United States.

“Preliminary estimates show that domestic travelers accounted for 91.7% of all visitors, with 31.5 million Americans traveling to Florida in Q3. Overseas visitation grew by 3.2% from Q3 2024 reaching a total of 2.3 million,” according to the press release.

The number of Canadian tourists represented just 1.5% of all travelers visiting Florida for this quarter, as noted by VISIT FLORIDA.
