Insights from Poilievre’s Appearance on Joe Rogan

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre had a lengthy chat on The Joe Rogan Experience this week that lasted over two hours.

Rogan’s podcast is often ranked at the top of charts on platforms like Spotify, You Tube, and Apple Podcasts – boasting more than 20 million subscribers on You Tube alone.

The episode went live online on Thursday after being recorded the day before.

Poilievre mentioned to reporters that he took the opportunity to speak out against U. S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs affecting Canadian goods.

“One of the biggest leverage points we have to fight for tariff-free trade, to fight for our auto, steel, aluminum and lumber workers, is the goodwill of the American people,” he stated on Thursday morning.

Besides tariffs, they also explored various other subjects – including Trump’s jokes about Canada becoming his 51st state, Poilievre’s rapport with Prime Minister Mark Carney, and mixed martial arts (MMA).

Tough stance on Trump

At the beginning of their talk, Rogan asked Poilievre about Trump’s ongoing suggestion that Canada should become the 51st state and whether it affected his campaign in last year’s election.

While Poilievre didn’t discuss how those comments influenced the election (he prefers to “live in the present”), he clearly dismissed any idea of Canada merging with the U. S.

“We’re very proudly Canadian so we’re never gonna be the 51st state,” Poilievre asserted.

“I just wish he’d knock that s–t off so that we can get back to talking about things we could do as separate countries that are actually friends.”

Set to appear on The Joe Rogan Experience Thursday afternoon, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said he ‘used the podcast to argue in favour of removing’ U. S. tariffs. Poilievre also gifted Rogan a custom maple leaf kettlebell, saying ‘I think we had a great conversation.’

Rogan seemed to agree with him, describing Trump’s comment about Canada as “a crazy thing to say.”

The Conservative leader criticized Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on several Canadian products, claiming it drives up costs for Americans.

“We should get rid of those tariffs because there’s so much more we could achieve together as neighbors and partners if those barriers were gone,” Poilievre remarked.

Ties with Carney

When asked if he’s talked with Trump directly, Poilievre shared that he’s letting Carney handle those discussions along with his government.

“I believe in one prime minister at a time,” he told Rogan.

This aligns with what he’s previously said; however, Poilievre did mention he’s been keeping in touch with Carney during his travels across America this week.

“Even while I’m down here, I’m texting him updates about what’s happening because we both want what’s best for Canada,” Poilievre explained.

Later during their discussion, Rogan gave him an opening to criticize Carney for not adopting enough Conservative ideas – but Poilievre declined to do so.

The pair discussed medical assistance in dying (MAID) and when it should be allowed.

Rogan brought up statistics indicating five percent of all deaths in Canada are due to MAID-calling it an “insane” figure.

The Conservatives opposed legislation legalizing MAID back in 2016. However, when speaking with Rogan,

Poilievre expressed his belief that “people should have choice.”

He emphasized his party’s opposition towards new regulations allowing individuals suffering exclusively from mental health issues access MAID.

“We need more initiatives focused on giving hope when individuals struggle mentally-helping them feel like they can regain control over their lives,” cited fitness promotion as a method for tackling mental health challenges.

The apple incident
