Burlington is located right on Lake Ontario and is part of the Greater Toronto Area, just under an hour from downtown Toronto. Even though it’s close to both Toronto and Hamilton, this waterfront community is renowned for its natural beauty and boasts 115 local parks. Some highlights along the lake include Beachway Park, which features 6.8 acres of parkland, two kilometers of lakeside trails, an outdoor pavilion, a seasonal concession stand, and a two-kilometer stretch of soft sandy beach that’s perfect for swimming. Another great spot is Spencer Smith Park; it’s perfect for a leisurely walk along the promenade while enjoying ice cream or catching a sunset. It also features the Brant Street Pier, an iconic structure extending over Lake Ontario that’s open daily from 7 a. m. to 11 p. m. Village Square at 418 Pearl St. is a charming historic plaza just steps away from the waterfront where you can stroll through cobblestone paths to discover cozy cafes and snap pictures with a classic British-style red phone booth. The Burlington Butter Tarts & More Market takes place at the Art Gallery of Burlington, which is conveniently located right next to Spencer Smith Park. Established in 1978, it’s one of Ontario’s seven largest public art galleries showcasing both permanent collections and temporary exhibits. After picking up your tarts, feel free to explore what’s on display in the gallery. Entry to the Burlington Butter Tarts & More Market is free but donations are appreciated.
