Co-founders Yasser Ali and Yazan El-Shalabi welcomed a crowd of consumers into the restaurant
Shelby’s Legendary Shawarma held a grand opening for its latest location in Burlington at 675 Appleby Line yesterday (Aug. 11), full with a ribbon-cutting, discounted meals, free samples and a go to from Ward 5 Councillor Paul Sharman.

Round 50 individuals lined up outdoors of the shop in anticipation for the occasion as doorways opened at midday, with Sharman kicking off the celebration with a decision from Mayor Marianne Meed Ward welcoming Shelby’s to Burlington.
“We’re delighted to have you,” Sharman mentioned. “I need to welcome you all to Burlington, and I’ve a decision from the Mayor that claims ‘on behalf of the City of Burlington, I extend my pleasure to extend my first congratulations to Shelby’s Legendary Shawarma.’ We’re delighted to see Shelby’s legendary Shawarma increase in Burlington, and to see this location served and grown for a few years to come back”
Shelby’s has 28 places unfold throughout Ontario and Quebec, with Burlington’s restaurant internet hosting the twenty fourth grand opening to this point.
Yasser Ali, co-founder of Shelby’s who performs the character of Shawarma Man on the restaurant, was excited to see the gang collect for the celebration.
“I feel fantastic, this is a great opportunity here,” he mentioned. “We’ve seen many faces, a lot of different cultures. Each new location we open, we get to see the demographic of that community, and so far it’s been fantastic. This is just the beginning, and we’re always happy when we can see a lineup before we open. It’s been a blessing.”
After the ribbon-cutting, Sharman took half in making the primary shawarma wrap of the day, baking saj bread, getting ready elements and flame-grilling the wrap, and was offered with a ‘certificate of shawarma mastery’ from Ali.
The Burlington location soft-launched in early July however delayed its official opening ceremony till August to make sure that workers have been correctly skilled and ready for the crowds on opening day.
“We do our homework and we’ve prepared for things like this,” Ali mentioned. “We have a big demographic here as well, we have a fan base. All we’re really doing is bringing Shelby’s experience closer to our fans. We’ve had good feedback and it’s been a good lot of people coming out through. So far so good.”
The restaurant handed out free samples of Lebanese churros to guests ready in line as Ali took pictures and movies with first-time and returning clients to hype up the event, giving out merchandise and staying in-character because the eccentric Shawarma Man.
