Ontario Liberal chief Bonnie Crombie made a shock cease in Burlington yesterday.

Crombie spent the afternoon (Wednesday, Feb. 5) with Burlington Liberal candidate Andrea Grebenc. The 2 spoke with supporters at Grebenc’s workplace, and knocked on a couple of doorways within the surrounding neighbourhoods. Previous to the cease in Burlington, Crombie stopped in neighbouring Hamilton the place she introduced she would double Ontario Incapacity Assist Program funds.

“We will do it over two years,” Crombie mentioned within the Burlington workplace. “It is a sizeable number, but it will be in our platform. There is so much waste, I can identify $7 billion off the top of my head – $2 billion at Ontario Place, $2 billion to bring beer and wine to corner stores a year ahead of when it was coming anyway, and $3 billion on $200 cheques.”

Grebenc added doubling ODSP funds is a necessity for a lot of.

“A person told me he’s living in subsidized housing, and said he’s lucky to do so,” Grebenc mentioned. “At the end of the month with food, rent, and everything, he still has $200 left over. But anyone who isn’t in subsidized housing is suffering. I passed that story onto the party, so I was already advocating for that. But I’m sure I was not the only one.”

Crombie mentioned the $200 cheque is an efficient approach to assist Ontario residents this month, however points will persist into subsequent month. She added her authorities plans to take HST off house heating and hydro, and make housing cheaper.

Different events have mentioned they plan to take away tolls, or to completely re-purchase the 407 freeway. Crombie mentioned there’s at the moment no plan the Liberals can share on the 407, although a transportation announcement is coming quickly.

She additionally spoke with supporters about Conservative Chief Doug Ford saying he needed U.S. President Donald Trump to win the election.

“It’s very revealing about the personality, and how calculation this election call truly was,” she mentioned. “Doug Ford supported Donald Trump knowing he was going to wage a trade war with us and impose punitive tariffs, and that’s who he chose to side with, knowing that was the president’s platform. He needed an excuse because he’s got a majority government, he didn’t have to call an election until June 2026. We thought he was outrunning the RCMP, we thought it was an opportunity to cling to power because in a tariff war we want to protect jobs, but the only job the premier wants to protect is his own.”

Crombie added she believes the Ontario Liberals can take again Burlington.

“There is a lot of excitement; we feel that Andrea can win this riding for us again,” Crombie mentioned. “That’s the kind of momentum we’re feeling at the doors.”

The 2 knocked on doorways within the space, assembly with supporters and undecided voters. Residents shared their issues about housing affordability and schooling. Grebenc is a former Halton District Faculty Board trustee and chair.

Crombie arrived in Burlington simply earlier than 3 p.m., and was met with a shock as she entered the workplace. She celebrated her sixty fifth birthday on Wednesday, and was met with balloons, cake, and singing as she entered the Burlington workplace.

Grebenc continued there are tax breaks within the Liberal’s platform for small enterprise house owners, and that the combo of residential and industrial properties within the space is nice to see.
