In a information launch, Premier Doug Ford says Operation Deterrence will “crack down on unlawful border crossings and unlawful weapons and medicines.”
It comes as U.S. president-elect Donald Trump threatens to impose a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian items except Canada tightens border safety, with an emphasis on fentanyl and unlawful crossings.
As a part of the operation, Ontario says provincial police have an “emergency response workforce” of 200 officers targeted on boosting border safety.
The province says the operation, which it describes as a “preparedness and planning framework,” will goal actions exterior of the 14 official border crossings staffed by federal border brokers.
The discharge says Ontario officers took half in a joint planning and readiness train with federal authorities on Friday to advertise co-ordination on the border.
