The Metropolis of Burlington is ready to obtain a virtually $14 million funding to boost its public transit infrastructure by way of the Baseline Funding stream of the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF), introduced at this time in partnership with the federal authorities.

Funding will go to long-term planning and the modernization of its transit system, preserve and enhance current property and develop the system to accommodate inhabitants progress.

The Canada Public Transit Fund is the biggest public transit funding in Canadian historical past. This secure, long-term funding will allow municipalities and transit businesses to plan and implement tasks that meet their wants properly into the long run.

I am thankful for the federal government’s investment, which ensures we have the resources to build a sustainable transit system for the future,” stated Mayor Marianne Meed Ward.

Starting in 2026-27, funds will probably be supplied to town, contingent on submitting a capital plan and signing a funding settlement.

Burlington Transit at the moment operates 70 typical buses and 15 specialised automobiles, with a 40% improve in ridership from 2019 to 2024. In 2024, over 68,000 specialised transit journeys had been made.

Burlington’s inhabitants is projected to develop by over 40% within the subsequent 25 years, and this funding will help town’s present and future residents.

“Through the Canada Public Transit Fund, we are partnering with communities across the country to meet long-term transit needs,” stated Pam Damoff, MP for Oakville North—Burlington. “This investment will improve existing services and allow Burlington Transit to expand in line with community growth.”
