Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into a shooting by Burlington, Ont., police that left a 23-year-old man hospitalized.

At around 12:30 a. m. on March 8, officers were performing a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Crestwood Motel on Plains Road E., when the man “drove toward officers,” according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

An officer from Halton Regional Police Service shot the man multiple times, as stated by the SIU, noting that a woman in the vehicle was not hurt.

Paramedics transported the man to a hospital in Hamilton “where he remains in stable condition,” said the SIU.

The SIU investigates police interactions involving death, serious injury, or sexual assault. They mentioned that multiple investigators are examining this shooting and encourage anyone with information, photos, or videos to reach out to them.
