Mayor Marianne Meed Ward introduced the Degree 2 Emergency simply earlier than 5 p.m.

Burlington is in a Degree 2 Emergency on account of continued rain and flooding.

Simply earlier than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward launched an announcement.

“The City is currently in a Level 2 Emergency,” Meed Ward wrote on her web site. “This means that City staff, in coordination with local and regional partners are actively responding to the emergency in real-time, clearing debris from our waterways, doing repair work to City property, visiting hot spot locations to monitor and manage water levels, responding to calls for service and more.”

The mayor added that her own residence and property have been impacted by the flooding, and he or she empathized with the misery of residents.

A Degree 2 Emergency is a medium case of disaster administration and/or catastrophe administration. There are three ranges of emergency for the town of Burlington.

“In our meeting today, Council requested an update from staff on the flood and actions being taken,” the mayor wrote. “Council also requested staff provide scheduled updates to the public in the coming days. We also unanimously called for a Council meeting which has been scheduled for Friday, July 19 at 9:30 a.m. so that Council and the community can get a status update on the City’s emergency response, resources available to them and further information on the City’s next steps.”

The assembly on Friday will probably be livestreamed on the town’s web site.

Meed Ward continued that many individuals inquired about infrastructure, saying after the flood in 2014, the town invested an extra $20 million into stormwater administration, which has made a distinction within the metropolis’s skill to answer storm occasions.

“I want to thank our staff at the City of Burlington and the Region of Halton who have been working tirelessly to address the situation,” Meed Ward stated. “They have been coordinating efforts to manage flooded roads, providing assistance to affected households, and ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone in our community.”

As of Tuesday night, solely mild rain is predicted for the rest of the week.
