Over 2,500 delegates, together with mayors from throughout Ontario, are assembly in Ottawa this week to debate methods to higher handle every municipality in all areas.

Mayor of Burlington, Marianne Meed Ward, spoke in Sunday’s opening speeches calling on the federal and provincial governments for extra monetary help to unravel what she calls a humanitarian disaster when speaking about homelessness.

Meed Ward says the present system to obtain further provincial and federal funding isn’t constant, or sufficient to cowl what they’re being requested to do.

Meed Ward proposes an motion plan to incorporate a devoted Minister to unravel the homelessness disaster and a transition plan for these at present dwelling in encampments.

When requested by CHCH Information if extra taxation powers are wanted, she pointed to {dollars} higher spent on what she calls “wrap around support.”

“After this individual had supportive housing and wrap around services, mental health, addictions support as well as a whole range of other supports custom to the individual in those units, they had no hospital visits”.
