Burlington, Ont.—Nov. 26, 2024— The Metropolis of Burlington is happy to share the Ontario authorities’s announcement this week of funding for a brand new psychological well being unit at Joseph Brant Hospital. This funding displays Burlington Metropolis Council’s ongoing dedication to enhancing psychological well being and habit companies for residents and addressing important gaps in care.

Ontario Chronicle’s funding follows sustained advocacy by Burlington Metropolis Council. In October 2021, Council directed Mayor Marianne Meed Ward to put in writing to the Premier of Ontario, native Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs), the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament (MPs), and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to champion Joseph Brant Hospital’s Psychological Well being and Addictions Redevelopment Mission. In September 2024, Metropolis Council supported a movement calling on provincial and federal governments to decide to rapid motion to resolve the Humanitarian Disaster that Ontario is dealing with because the numbers of unhoused people and people struggling with psychological well being and addictions grows.

This week’s announcement of a brand new funding in Burlington’s psychological well being companies will present important entry to look after residents who name the Metropolis dwelling now and people who are projected to hitch the native inhabitants within the years to come back.

The brand new psychological well being unit at Joseph Brant Hospital will embrace:

An grownup outpatient space.
Improved grownup psychiatric intensive care.
Expanded youngster and youth programming.
Specialised applications with interdisciplinary groups of nurses, physicians, social employees, and psychiatrists for disaster intervention, evaluation, and stabilization.
