Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) intercepted a commercial truck on the QEW early Tuesday morning after receiving multiple reports of the vehicle scraping down the highway on its bare rims.
Burlington OPP officers were alerted just after 3 a. m. regarding a bobtail truck heading towards Toronto from Ontario Street in St. Catharines. The police mentioned that the noise from the truck was loud enough for them to hear it coming before they even spotted it.
The officers stopped the truck near Casablanca Boulevard in Grimsby, where they found the driver calmly completing his daily inspection report as an officer approached the cab.
Photos released by the OPP reveal the truck riding directly on its rims – which police labeled as a “major defect” and a significant safety risk for anyone on the highway at that time of night.
A 36‑year‑old man from Brampton is now facing several charges, including operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle, driving a commercial vehicle with a major defect, and not ensuring that his daily inspection report was filled out correctly.
Authorities did not disclose how long the truck had been traveling in such a condition or why the driver continued to drive without tires.
