The Ford authorities introduced Friday it plans to construct a tunnel for the Brampton portion of the Hazel McCallion Gentle Rail Transit (LRT), because it strikes forward with work to increase the venture into downtown Brampton and Mississauga.
Premier Doug Ford, together with Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria, made the announcement in Brampton, which is seen as a key electoral battleground.

The province stated the road extensions will allow transit riders to connect with GO Transit, Brampton Transit, Züm and MiWay routes.
In response to the province, the following steps would contain detailed planning and design of the Brampton and Mississauga extensions, together with an underground tunnel from the Brampton Gateway Terminal to downtown Brampton.
“Metrolinx will study ways to optimize construction and the route’s alignment to improve connection to the Brampton Innovation District GO Station and meet the City of Brampton’s vision for Main Street and the downtown core,” a provincial launch states.
The province designated the extensions as a precedence transit venture in 2024 beneath the Constructing Transit Quicker Act.
