Among the five victims who lost their lives in a tragic fire in Brampton, Ontario, were Indian nationals, as confirmed by the Consulate General of India in Toronto.

The Consulate stated that they have reached out to the affected family and are providing all necessary support.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives of Indian nationals in the devastating fire incident in Brampton. The Consulate conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and stands with them in this moment of immense grief,” the Consulate General of India in Toronto said in a post on X on Thursday (November 27, 2025).

As reported by , the fire erupted at 12 Banas Way, near Mc Laughlin and Remembrance roads, around 2.15 am on November 20.

The incident resulted in the deaths of three women and a young toddler; investigations are currently being conducted by Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal.

A pregnant woman who jumped from a window to escape survived but unfortunately lost her unborn child.

The cause of this deadly fire has not yet been established.

Constable Tyler Bell mentioned that four people were pronounced dead at the scene: three women and one toddler. One individual taken to the hospital was pregnant and underwent emergency surgery to deliver her baby, but tragically, the baby did not survive, he stated according to .

The constable noted that another four individuals hospitalized have stabilized; however, some remain critically ill. He added that a five-year-old boy is “doing quite well.”

Mayor Patrick Brown claimed last week that an “absentee landlord” owned the property and had previously faced compliance issues with regard to its basement unit.

Mr. Bell refrained from discussing details about who lived there but emphasized that managing victims and witnesses is currently their top priority for investigators.
