A home bought at a peak price recently sold at a significant loss in Brampton.
While some real estate analysts believe there might be a recovery by late 2026, home prices are currently down throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
According to the latest report from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board, the average selling price dropped by 5.1 percent in December compared to a year ago, settling at $1,006,735.
In Brampton specifically, the average selling price fell by 3.5 percent month-over-month to $882,661 in December.
Many buyers who purchased homes at peak prices are now facing significant losses. A Mississauga property just sold for a $645,000 loss. Additionally, a house in an upscale Toronto neighborhood went for a $1.35 million loss in November.
This latest instance involves a three-bedroom home located at 3 Sailwind Rd. in Brampton’s Sandringham-Wellington area.
This property was purchased for $1,380,000 back in October 2021, according to online real estate records.
It was listed just over a year later in November 2022 for $1,479,900 but didn’t find any buyers. It went through seven re-listings in both 2023 and 2025 without success.
The home ultimately sold as part of a power of sale early this January for $965,000, resulting in a loss of $415,000.
“This wasn’t a bad week. It was a bad three years,” real estate commentator Shazi Goalie shared on X. “Bought in 2021 for $1.38M. Relisted over and over as the market moved away. Eventually taken over and sold under power of sale for $965K.”
The detached two-storey brick house features quartz countertops in the kitchen along with a breakfast area and a second-floor family room that includes a fireplace; it also has a fully finished basement equipped with another kitchen, recreation room and bedroom.
