Funeral plans have been shared for five family members who tragically lost their lives in a house fire in Brampton.

The victims, which include a two-year-old and a newborn, will be honored on Friday, December 5, at the Brampton Crematorium and Visitation Centre located at 30 Bramwin Court.

Family members identified those who died as Harinder Kaur, Gurjit Kaur Grewal, Bantvir Singh Deol, Anudeep Kaur, and a newborn baby boy.

Four other relatives survived the incident while another family member-the father of the newborn-was away on business when it happened.

This father has been named Jugraj Singh.

“I am the only member of my family who is physically safe – only because I was away for work at the time of the tragedy,” Singh wrote on a Go Fund Me page. “This devastating fire took the lives of five beloved members of our Indian Punjabi family, leaving our hearts broken and our world shattered.”

Singh explained that among those who perished were his mother-in-law, his sister-in-law and her two-year-old child, his wife’s cousin, and his unborn child who died after being delivered following his pregnant wife’s escape by jumping out of a window but suffering severe injuries in the process.

Emergency responders arrived at the home on Banas Way in the Mc Laughlin and Remembrance roads area just before 2:45 a. m. on November 20.

Initially, two individuals were discovered deceased inside the residence on Thursday. The bodies of two more victims were found during subsequent cleanup operations over the following days.

Meanwhile, Singh’s pregnant wife jumped to safety and underwent a cesarean section at the hospital. Unfortunately, their baby did not survive after delivery marking this incident’s fifth victim.

“Sadly, one of the patients at hospital was pregnant; she underwent surgery, delivered that baby and that baby has since passed,” Peel regional police Const. Tyler Bell explained at that time.

The cause of this tragic fire remains under investigation.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has confirmed smoke alarms were present in the home; however it’s still unclear if they were operational.

The house has now been completely demolished by crews.
