A serious crash on Highway 410 in Brampton overnight left one man critically injured and caused the northbound lanes to be shut down for several hours on Wednesday while police investigated a confusing series of events that started with a two-vehicle accident and ended with one driver fleeing on foot.
The incident took place around 2:30 a. m. near Clark Boulevard. OPP reports that it began as a two-car collision. The drivers involved got out of their vehicles to talk when a third vehicle came along and hit one of them.
According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, one male was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two others received treatment for minor injuries at the scene. Another person ran away before police arrived, and investigators are still trying to find out why they left and where they might have gone.
“Efforts to locate them are ongoing,” Schmidt said, urging anyone who has information or dashcam footage to get in touch with the Mississauga OPP.
OPP told 680 News Radio that among the vehicles involved was a tractor-trailer, as well as a blue and silver car.
All northbound lanes of Highway 410 from Steeles Avenue East to Queen Street East were closed for several hours while collision reconstruction officers examined the area. The section reopened at 10:30 a. m.
