As we approach 2026, Costco is gearing up to open new spots in Ontario. The first location expected to pop up is on the border between Oakville and Burlington. This month, demolition crews started knocking down existing buildings to clear the way for a Costco on Wyecroft Road, close to Burloak Drive and the QEW. The new store will take over an existing shopping plaza. The long-awaited opening of this retail powerhouse is anticipated in 2027, which is much later than what was initially planned. Sources say that the original idea of converting existing stores into a Costco has been abandoned in favor of constructing a brand-new building. The plans include around 15,662.6 square meters of retail space, with entrances from Wyecroft Road and RioCan Boulevard leading into a parking area. This new outlet will have all the typical sections for food, apparel, electronics, and more that Costco is famous for. It’ll also offer over 1,000 parking spaces above ground, along with some spots underground. There will be sixteen accessible parking spaces above ground and another six below. Bikers can secure their bicycles in one of the 16 designated spaces available. A gas station is planned for the site at the northwest corner near South Service Road West and RioCan Boulevard as part of this project. Costco typically keeps future locations under wraps until they’re close to opening; however, there’s enough information out there suggesting that a second location – at the Caledon-Brampton border – is under serious consideration. Developers are looking to make this large wholesale store the main attraction in a plaza set for construction at the northwest corner of Mayfield Road and Creditview Road in Caledon, just north of Brampton’s border. Glen Schnarr and Associates Inc. has resubmitted an application for site plan approval on behalf of land owner 12100 Creditview Developments Limited to Caledon officials. The updated plans were sent back to Caledon planners to resolve issues they had with the initial proposal. If all goes well, this Costco location could benefit multiple communities, particularly Brampton – which is Ontario’s third-largest city. Shoppers from Halton Hills, Orangeville, and every neighborhood within Caledon would also find easy access to this warehouse. The preliminary documents suggest that this plaza would host not only a Costco but also a gas station associated with it, FreshCo supermarket, McDonald’s restaurant, Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy alongside several other retail shops plus ample parking facilities. This current proposal marks another attempt at bringing Costco into this area. A development plan including a Costco was put forward back in 2022 but got turned down by local politicians due to concerns about whether local infrastructure could handle such a large project. However, attitudes have shifted as population growth continues prompting road expansions nearby and increasing demand from residents who want shopping options closer by without long drives involved. Rumors about Costco coming to Caledon have been circulating for nearly a year now with most online commenters expressing positive feelings about it.
Those aware of the development caution that while things look promising it still requires several approvals from municipal authorities along with ensuring that Costco management stays aligned with these plans.“I think this is a perfect spot,” one commenter said on Reddit. “This is a growing area, and the drive to any other Costco is a long one. You can guarantee the place will always be busy.”
A source mentioned told INsauga.com many are eager “to make it happen” while experienced individuals work diligently towards finalizing everything involving Costco’s participation.
No specific timeline has been established yet; however early estimates suggest aiming for late 2027 or early 2028 would give shoppers realistic hope regarding when they might step foot inside their new local Costco.
