Brampton butter theft: $60,000 value of butter stolen in Peel area

Six folks have been arrested in reference to a Brampton investigation into stolen butter merchandise valued at $60,000. 

Investigators from the 22 Division Legal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested and charged six people in a theft investigation in Brampton, in accordance with Peel Regional Police (PRP). 

This comes after, final December, the police service grew to become conscious of a major improve in thefts of butter and ghee, a sort of clarified butter, from grocery shops in Peel. Police say the stolen merchandise had been value greater than $60,000. 

In a launch, PRP stated that in 2024 butter and ghee thefts had been up almost 135 per cent in comparison with the yr prior, with greater than 180 incidents reported to police.

To fight the problem, police established Mission Flaherty, and because of this, three folks had been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, together with:

Vishavjeet Singh, a 22-year-old man of no fastened tackle

Sukmander Singh, a 23-year-old man from Brampton

Dalwal Sidhu, a 28-year-old man from Brampton

Police additionally charged three different males with Theft Beneath $5,000, together with:

Navdeep Chaudhary, a 22-year-old man from Brampton

Kamaldeep Singh, a 38-year-old man of no fastened tackle

Harkerat Singh, a 25-year-old man of no fastened tackle

The six males will seem on the Ontario Courtroom of Justice in Brampton at a later date.

The investigation into these situations of stolen butter is ongoing, and officers are trying into which companies are accepting the stolen items. 

Police are asking anybody with data on the thefts to contact investigators with the 22 Division CIB. Those that want to stay nameless can contact Peel Crime Stoppers.

Butter thefts are usually not new in southern Ontario. Again in October 2024, police in Guelph had been investigating a string of comparable situations of their area, the place hundreds of {dollars} value of butter was stolen from varied shops.
