This is how Barrie will commemorate Remembrance Day

A number of downtown highway closures shall be in place Monday; 16 new flags additionally added this 12 months to honour native veterans

To honour and acknowledge those that have served our nation, Barrie’s Royal Canadian Legion department and the Metropolis of Barrie be part of communities throughout Canada in commemorating Remembrance Day.

This 12 months marks the 106th anniversary of the tip of the First World Conflict and the 79th anniversary of the tip of the Second World Conflict.

5 Cadets on rotating shifts will stand vigil at Memorial Sq. on Nov. 10 from 7 p.m. to midnight, and on Nov. 11 from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Town additionally invitations the general public to take part within the Remembrance Day parade and ceremony on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. The parade will begin alongside Dunlop Road at Mulcaster and march towards the 5 Factors intersection, halting in entrance of the cenotaph in Memorial Sq. for the ceremony.

In the course of the ceremony, a Feu De Joie (clean gunfire consisting of a rifle salute) will happen. Two minutes of silence shall be noticed at 11 a.m. adopted by the laying of wreaths.

The intersection of Dunlop Road East and Mulcaster Road will stay open for northbound and southbound visitors alongside Mulcaster Road till 9:30 a.m. At the moment, the intersection shall be closed till roughly 12:30 p.m. to facilitate the parade’s motion towards Meridian Sq..

The closure impacts Mulcaster Road from Collier Road to Dunlop Road, and Mulcaster Road from Dunlop Road to Lakeshore Mews to permit the parade to move safely by way of the intersection at Dunlop Road and Mulcaster Road.

Members of the neighborhood, native organizations or companies who want to lay a wreath on the Memorial Sq. cenotaph, are requested to name the legion at 705-728-1412 to make preparations prematurely to ensure that their wreath to be respectfully positioned previous to the ceremony. Requests must be submitted by Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. The wreaths shall be eliminated on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 12 p.m. The general public is reminded in the event that they want to hold their wreath to please choose it up beforehand.

Veterans additionally experience Barrie Transit freed from cost, with one companion, all day on Remembrance Day by displaying something that identifies their standing as a veteran.

Remembrance Day flags

Every fall, the town shows Remembrance Day flags all through the downtown and waterfront. This 12 months, 16 new flags have been added to the collection honouring native veterans, and flag areas and particulars could be seen on an interactive map.
