Durham Region police report that one of their recruits has lost his life and another has sustained serious injuries following a crash near the Ontario Police College in southwestern Ontario.
Chief Peter Moreira expresses his sorrow over what he calls “a profound loss” after the accident that took place in Malahide Township on Tuesday.

According to Moreira, the two constables were heading to a training session when the incident occurred.
He shares the tragic news that one recruit has died while the other remains in critical condition with “deep sadness.”
The chief mentions that the focus is now on providing support and care for the families, loved ones, and friends of the recruits as they navigate this difficult time.
Moreira adds that no additional information will be released right now as Ontario Provincial Police continue their investigation.
The OPP confirmed via social media that the fatal incident involved a sedan and a transport truck.
