Authorities confirmed that a man was found on the premises and taken into custody for outstanding warrants, but he wasn’t the individual mentioned in the initial report; no weapon was discovered.

Barrie police shared new details on the raid that took place Tuesday afternoon at an abandoned house on Tiffin Street, along with drone footage released on Thursday.

At 3:30 p. m. on December 16, officers were alerted to a possible trespasser at a location near Tiffin Street and Essa Road. It was also indicated that someone might have been seen with a weapon, according to police reports.

The front-line officers, together with the tactical support unit (TSU), assessed the situation and confirmed that no weapon was present.

One man was located at the property and arrested for outstanding warrants; however, he did not match the description given in the initial report.

Police noted that due to concerns about a firearm, there was a significant police presence, including members of TSU, canine units, a drone, and the Rescue 1 armored vehicle.

The drone video of the operation shows it approaching the building as officers worked to confirm that it was unoccupied.

“Thankfully, it is believed that the initial report was inaccurate. However, police must respond based on the information provided, which may not always be accurate until we can determine what is actually taking place,” police stated in their announcement.

Kyle Butcher observed from his car parked nearby as events unfolded and kept Barrie Today updated during this time.

In a brief clip he recorded on his phone, you can hear an officer instructing someone inside to exit.

“To any occupants inside the white building on Tiffin Street, this is the Barrie police tactical support unit. Come to the front door with nothing in your hand. Do it now,” said an officer through a loudspeaker.

According to Butcher’s account, within an hour after police arrived, it seemed like operations had wrapped up.
