Two Barrie cops have been cleared of any wrongdoing after an allegedly armed suspect was injured throughout an arrest over the summer season.
The Particular Investigations Unit (SIU) director concluded there was no cheap grounds to consider the officers dedicated a legal offence following the incident involving a 21-year-old man on July 16.
The company stories the person, accused of drug trafficking on Mary Avenue, fled from the officers, prompting a foot pursuit.
The SIU report states the person discarded a loaded handgun in the course of the chase, together with a “sizable quantity of what was believed to be fentanyl.”
In response to the report, the officers tackled the accused to the bottom as he continued to withstand arrest.
After being taken into custody, the SIU says he was handled for a damaged nostril on the hospital.
The company’s report included particulars from video footage obtained from a Metropolis of Barrie pole-mounted digicam on the intersection of Dunlop Avenue West and Mary Avenue, together with the officer’s body-worn cameras.
“The injury could have resulted from his falling forward onto his face while fleeing arrest, or from an officer tackling him from behind and landing on his back while he was on the ground. In whichever circumstance, Director Martino found no grounds to believe that either subject official comported himself other than within the limits of the criminal law.,” the report states.
The SIU is a civilian legislation enforcement company that investigates incidents involving police the place there was loss of life, critical harm, the discharge of a firearm at an individual or an allegation of sexual assault.
