A young driver and two motorcyclists lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash in the Kawartha Lakes region.

Emergency responders along with Ontario Provincial Police arrived around 6 p. m. Saturday to the deadly accident in Omemee, Ont., located just west of Peterborough.

They were sent to the intersection of Highway 7 and New Heights Road after reports came in about a serious incident involving four motorcycles and one passenger vehicle.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, and a 72-year-old male motorcyclist from Dunchurch were declared dead at the scene due to the crash, according to police.

A second motorcycle rider, a 65-year-old man from Barrie, was airlifted to a trauma center in Toronto with severe injuries but unfortunately passed away later.

Police mentioned that a 30-year-old male motorcyclist from Sudbury was initially taken to a local hospital for treatment before being transferred to a Toronto-area trauma center.

The OPP stated that another motorcyclist, a 36-year-old man from Sudbury, received treatment at the scene and was later released.

The OPP’s technical collision investigation unit is on-site assisting with the investigation.

If anyone has information or dashcam footage related to this incident, they are urged to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP.

The investigation remains active.
