Authorities have announced the identity of a young boy from Windsor who was fatally stabbed on Sunday, along with naming the 18-year-old man charged with first-degree murder in connection to his death.

A spokesperson for the Windsor Police Service (WPS) informed that the victim is Shane Cushman. They stated he “lost his life in a senseless act of violence.” He was only 16 years old.

The accused is Hatem Hameed, who faces additional charges for making threats to cause death and wearing a facemask while committing an offence.

According to police, the tragic event took place on Sunday around 6 p. m. at a shopping plaza located at Tecumseh Road E. and Mc Dougall Street.

Officers tried to perform life-saving measures at the scene, but sadly, the boy passed away later in hospital.

Identity of 16-year-old Windsor stabbing victim confirmed

Shane Cushman, age 16, is remembered as a deeply loved son, grandchild, sibling, and friend. Meanwhile, authorities have revealed that Hatem Hameed, aged 18, has been charged with first-degree murder for Cushman’s death.

A Go Fund Me page set up to support the victim’s family stated: “We are heartbroken to share the loss of our sweet Shane Cushman, a deeply loved son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend to many; who’s life was abruptly taken too soon at just 16 years old.”

By Tuesday evening, contributions had reached nearly $23,000 through this page.

Police Investigate Possible Link Between Pellet Gun Incident and Stabbing

Lately on Tuesday night, Windsor police reported that they have started looking into shots fired from a pellet gun near Hameed’s residence.

“Investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident and whether it is connected to this week’s murder of a 16-year-old boy,” police said in a news release.

“The Windsor Police Service takes incidents involving weapons seriously. Acts of retaliation or intimidation that place the public at risk will not be tolerated and will be thoroughly investigated.”

In response to this crime, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens expressed that it was “unwarranted” and “unnecessary.”

“We need to make sure we’re working as parents, as educators, as community members making sure that we’re letting young people know what the pathway is to deal with grievances that don’t resort to firearms, weapons and violence,” he told reporters after Monday’s city council meeting.
